Kyra Kaiser Honored as 2025 CoS Outstanding Islander Graduate

This summer, I’m proud to share that my mentee, Kyra Kaiser ’23, ’25, has been named the Outstanding Islander Graduate for the College of Science. Kyra’s path to this achievement was anything but easy — balancing graduate research, academic excellence, and community involvement while navigating personal and family challenges that would have discouraged many.

From her first steps as a dual-credit student to earning both her B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and her M.S. in Chemistry with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Kyra has shown an unshakable commitment to her goals. She has mentored undergraduates, presented at national and international conferences, and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications — all while giving back to her community through STEM outreach.

“Kyra has proven herself as an independent research scientist and caring, successful mentor. Her ability to excel academically while leading impactful research and supporting others through mentorship and personal adversity proves her dedication as a well-rounded student.”

Kyra will soon begin her studies at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, with plans to serve medically underserved communities. Her journey is proof that resilience, determination, and mentorship can lead to extraordinary accomplishments.
